Travel Inspiration, Tips, and Advice

Everyone knows about Jamaica's beaches and the Bahamas' crystal-clear waters. But what if I told you the Caribbean's best-kept secrets are hiding in plain sight—waiting for travelers who want something beyond the usual tourist trail?
These seven destinations offer the same turquoise water and white sand you crave, but with fewer crowds, authentic culture, and that "I discovered this place" feeling that makes travel unforgettable.
Forget beach clubs and jet skis. Saba is a volcanic island where the only sounds are waves crashing against black lava rocks and the rustle of rainforest canopy overhead.
This Dutch Caribbean gem rises 2,910 feet straight out of the sea. There's exactly one road (aptly named "The Road"), hand-built stone cottages with red roofs, and some of the Caribbean's best diving. The underwater pinnacles are covered in coral gardens that look like something from a nature documentary.
Why 2026? New eco-lodges are opening, but Saba's commitment to sustainable tourism means development stays minimal. Go before the secret's out.
While other islands cleared their forests for resorts, Dominica kept 60% of its land wild. The result? Waterfalls you can have to yourself, hot springs hidden in the jungle, and hiking trails that end at volcanic craters.
The Waitukubuli National Trail stretches 115 miles across the entire island. You'll pass through cloud forests where parrots screech overhead, wade through rivers, and sleep in villages where locals still speak Creole patois.
The water here isn't just for floating—it's for canyoning down waterfalls, snorkeling in champagne reefs (yes, volcanic bubbles rise from the ocean floor), and soaking in natural hot pools after a day of adventure.
Pro tip: Book a river tubing experience through the jungle. It's equal parts peaceful and exhilarating.
Just 90 minutes by ferry from Grenada, Carriacou feels like the Caribbean of 40 years ago. No cruise ships. No all-inclusives. Just fishing villages, rum shops, and beaches where you might be the only person for miles.
The island is only 13 square miles, but it packs in pristine diving sites, traditional boat-building yards, and a culture that's fiercely proud of its African and Scottish heritage. Visit during the Carriacou Regatta in August, and you'll see hand-built sloops racing while the whole island celebrates.
Paradise Beach lives up to its name—powdery white sand, water in every shade of blue, and absolutely nothing to do but read, swim, and wonder why you ever thought you needed WiFi.

While the rest of the British Virgin Islands are mountainous and lush, Anegada is flat, coral-formed, and surrounded by some of the Caribbean's most dangerous reefs (for ships, not swimmers).
This is where you come for lobster. Fresh-caught, grilled over driftwood, served with your toes in the sand at places like the Lobster Trap or Cow Wreck Beach Bar. The island has more flamingos than people, and the beaches—especially Loblolly Bay—stretch for miles without a single resort in sight.
The snorkeling and diving here are legendary. Horseshoe Reef has claimed over 300 shipwrecks, creating an underwater museum of maritime history.
Getting there: Small planes or private boats only. The journey is part of the charm.
In the 1700s, this tiny Dutch island was one of the richest ports in the Western Hemisphere. Now? It's one of the quietest.
Statia's claim to fame: it was the first foreign nation to recognize American independence by saluting an American ship in 1776. Today, you can dive the ruins of 18th-century warehouses, hike up a dormant volcano, and explore a town that feels frozen in time.
The Quill, Statia's volcanic crater, is covered in rainforest and home to rare orchids and hermit crabs the size of softballs. The hike to the crater floor is steep but worth every step.
Why it's special: Fewer than 3,200 people live here. You'll have historical sites and dive spots almost entirely to yourself.
Just off the coast of Guadeloupe, this cluster of islands feels more Mediterranean than Caribbean. Think: French bakeries, colorful fishing boats, and beaches that rival anything in St. Barths—without the price tag.
Terre-de-Haut is the main island, small enough to explore by scooter in an afternoon. Pain de Sucre beach is consistently ranked among the world's best, with calm, clear water perfect for snorkeling and a backdrop of volcanic hills.
The food here is exceptional. Fresh-caught fish, French pastries, and the local specialty: tourment d'amour (a coconut tart that translates to "torment of love").
Insider tip: Stay overnight. Day-trippers from Guadeloupe leave by 4 PM, and the island transforms into a peaceful paradise.

Getting here requires a flight to Big Corn Island, then a panga boat ride across choppy water. There are no cars, no paved roads, and no ATMs. Just sandy paths, beachfront bungalows, and some of the best diving in Central America.
Little Corn is where you go to completely disconnect. Days are spent snorkeling with nurse sharks, kayaking through mangroves, and watching sunsets from hammocks strung between palm trees.
The vibe is backpacker-meets-boutique. You'll find yoga studios next to dive shops, farm-to-table restaurants serving fresh lobster, and a community of travelers who came for a week and stayed for months.
What makes it special: The reef here is pristine. Visibility often exceeds 100 feet, and you'll see eagle rays, sea turtles, and reef sharks on nearly every dive.
Sustainable tourism is no longer a buzzword—it's a necessity. These seven destinations have chosen to protect their natural beauty and cultural heritage instead of building mega-resorts.
By visiting now, you're supporting local economies, experiencing authentic Caribbean culture, and getting ahead of the crowds that will inevitably discover these gems.
These hidden Caribbean islands offer something the mainstream destinations can't: authenticity, adventure, and the feeling that you've truly discovered something special.
Planning a trip to any of these destinations requires insider knowledge—from the best time to visit to navigating inter-island transportation. That's where I come in.
Book a free travel consultation and let's design your perfect Caribbean escape. Whether you want diving in Statia, hiking in Dominica, or simply disappearing on Little Corn Island, I'll handle the details so you can focus on the adventure.

I enjoyed my first cruise on the Margaritaville ship. It was so much fun. Chris was always available to answer any questions that I had. He sent me a list of things to have on a first cruise. He even planned an excursion for my party while we were in the Bahamas.
★★★★★
From start to finish, Chris’ service was excellent. He would answer questions for me late at night and never seemed annoyed by me. He made sure all my special requests were made. The onboard credit from both Royal Caribbean and Black Diamond Travels was very helpful.
